In hospitals across the country, OBHG clinicians deliver life-saving care every single day. Their around-the-clock presence ensures that all obstetrical patients receive immediate, unbiased care.
Today’s story focuses on OBHG Market Medical Director Dr. Jennifer Risinger and how she delivered life-saving care to a patient.
Summary:
OBHG Market Medical Director and Site Director Dr. Jennifer Risinger arrived for her shift when a patient was brought in by her private doctor for an induction of labor.
The patient had a healthy pregnancy except for an elevated BMI. The estimated fetal weight was about nine pounds and the patient and her doctor decided that they would proceed with induction.
After about one day, the patient was ready to start pushing. Dr. Risinger and the nurses worked with her with all kinds of pushing positions. After the patient tried for a few hours, Dr. Risinger attempted a vacuum delivery which was unsuccessful, and they had to proceed with a C-section.

“I think one of the real values of an OB hospitalist program is that because we’re there to support the patient in their birth and their birth journey, as well as support the private physicians because we can assume care of the patient, it almost eliminates that crunch time in terms of we’ve got to be on the clock, or we’ve got to have that delivery done by a certain time, because we can seamlessly just pick up for our private providers and support that mom and help in her journey. I think it helps to decrease those primary C-section rates and we help to achieve a vaginal delivery. We help and are there in case there’s any emergencies. And ultimately, we really are advocates for our patients and providing that birth experience that they want. I’m very pleased that our program has helped to decrease our primary C-section rate. I think we’re a key point in that. And I think that all in all, we can do that that will also provide for better outcomes for women everywhere.”
