Every day, OBHG clinicians deliver life-saving care for all women with OB/GYN emergencies. Their presence in the hospital and dedication to patients makes a significant difference when every minute counts. Here is an incredible story about a life-saving intervention performed by one of OBHG’s amazing clinicians.
In this powerful story, Dr. Deneishia Fisher, an OB hospitalist and Site Director with Ob Hospitalist Group in Virginia shares an unforgettable experience that highlights the critical role hospital-based obstetric care plays when every second counts.
A woman arrived at the OB Emergency Department at 36 weeks pregnant, thinking her water had broken. After being evaluated by the midwife, she was admitted to labor and delivery. Everything seemed normal—until it wasn’t.
A few hours later, her nurse urgently called Dr. Fisher to the bedside. The patient was suddenly in intense pain, bleeding heavily, and the baby’s heart rate had dropped dangerously low. Recognizing that this was a true emergency, the hospitalist called for an immediate C-section.
Thanks to a fast, coordinated response from the team—including anesthesiologists, nurses, and neonatologists—they were able to deliver the baby and stabilize the mother. The baby spent some time in the NICU, but both mother and child ultimately recovered well.
This story is a reminder of why OB hospitalists are so important. The patient’s regular doctor was still 15 minutes away, but having a skilled provider on-site made all the difference.
At the heart of it all is one mission: healthy moms and healthy babies.
