OBHG Hospitalist Dr. Donna Sweetland was on shift when she received a call from the emergency department. The patient had passed out at home, fell, and hit her head. She was brought in by ambulance and was complaining of abdominal pain. She had a history for having had a molar pregnancy.
The ED ran a few tests including a CT scan and ultrasound. Dr. Sweetland consulted with the patient’s gynecologic oncologist due to the patient’s history. The patient’s blood pressure and heart rate had increased, and the decision was made to take her emergently to the operating room.
“I think it shows that sometimes we have to investigate a little bit further, but it also shows the great care that the ER gave and how quickly they performed the ultrasound and the OR worked in order to take this patient to the operating room and help take care of her with a good outcome.”
