Hospitals today face a multitude of challenges concerning the obstetric and gynecologic well-being of the women within their communities.
Key challenges include:
- Staffing shortages and burnout, especially in underserved markets
- Timely care for obstetric emergencies
- Clinical decision-making in complex specialty
- Maternal mortality and morbidity in the face of increasing complications and comorbidities
- Resource constraints
- Lack of quality improvement initiatives
- Health equity issues
Modern approaches for today’s maternal health challenges
Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) partners with hospitals of varying sizes to address the diverse challenges confronting today’s hospitals.
We recognize that no two hospitals are alike. That’s why we closely align with hospitals to design the best solution for their hospital’s specific needs. These may include options such as:
- An OB hospitalist model of coverage for a labor and delivery unit
- Coverage for an OB/GYN clinic
- A combination of clinic coverage and labor and delivery call service
Program models
While every partnership and program with OBHG is tailored to meet specific needs, we primarily operate through two main models: traditional OB hospitalist programs and Maternal Health Access Solutions programs.

Key program components: · Active On-Site coverage · Clinical leadership · Labor and delivery/OB hospitalist management · Quality management · Ongoing program customization |
Maternal Health Access Solutions Programs

These solutions help to keep services in the community, increase outcomes and support staff and community providers. Tailored solutions including options such as: · Part-time physician coverage · Alternative clinician coverage · In-market coverage · OB/GYN clinic coverage (Many of the options above can be paired together) |
“On day one, literally, the very first day that we started our program, we had a life save. We had a mom come in with a placental abruption and her provider was at his home and about 20-25 minutes away. We had our OB hospitalist in-house and he was able to do that stat C-section, within four minutes of her coming rolling through the door. That baby was already in severe distress before it was a complete eruption. There is no way possible that that baby would have lived for 25 minutes waiting for that primary provider to get to the patient’s bedside. So, on day one, the program showed its value. The program helps provide higher patient care, higher level of care, safety. It’s just been a great addition.”
– Erica Hess, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services, Baptist Medical Center East, Montgomery, AL
“When two of our three OB/GYN community providers left abruptly we were hanging on by a thread. OBHG has enabled us to maintain our program, they are a reliable partner. I have no hesitation recommending OBHG.”
— Traci Thibodeaux, CEO, Beauregard Memorial Hospital, DeRidder, LA
