At Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG), we don’t just fill roles, we build relationships. It’s about learning who our clinicians are, what motivates them, where they are in their careers and where they hope to go next.
Because we offer a wide range of clinical opportunities across the country, including full-time, part-time, travel, and leadership, we’re uniquely equipped to match OB/GYN hospitalists with roles that align with both their professional goals and personal values. We don’t just fill what’s open, we focus on what’s right for each individual.
A thoughtful, human approach to clinical recruiting
Better placements begin with better conversations, such as, “What are you looking for? What matters most to you? Where do you thrive?”
Senior Clinical Recruiter Christina Plain does just that. “My recruiting style is really getting to know the clinician and being a resource for them, helping them figure out what they want next in their career,” she says.
With years of experience in healthcare and recruiting, she understands the value of genuine relationships. “I love getting to know people and hearing their stories. It’s important to understand not just what kind of job they’re looking for, but why. What are their goals? What’s their ideal work-life balance? What motivates them?”
That connection has real impact. “From the first conversation, you try to build the relationship so they think of you as kind of their advocate and not just another recruiter on the phone,” she explains.
Christina takes pride in building lasting connections. “I don’t want to just place somebody. I want to be their go-to person. I want them to think of me the next time they’re ready to make a move, because I helped them in a way that mattered.”
Flexibility that supports real life
With such a broad offering of practice types and scheduling options, OBHG is able to offer flexible roles that match real life, not the other way around.
“I always try to ask, what do you want? Do you want to be close to family? Do you want to move back home? Do you want a schedule that allows you to be with your kids more? Let’s start with your goals, and then let’s see what fits,” Christina says.
“Some people just want to be in the hospital, do their job, and leave, and that’s great,” she adds. “Other people want to move into leadership. And some are looking for a slower pace. We’ve got all of that.”
“We can tailor the role to their needs. Some want two shifts a month, some want full-time. We have the flexibility to meet them where they are.”
This flexibility allows clinicians to stay in control of their careers while staying connected to not only the work they love but life outside of the hospital.
OB/GYN roles in underserved and rural communities
OBHG’s Maternal Health Access Solutions (MHAS) program is a lifeline for many underserved communities.
“Every one of the MHAS clinicians that I recruited really had a passion for rural medicine and a passion for the patients in the rural communities.”
“They were all in some sort of private practice, and it allowed them to keep private practice aspects of a position, but still give back to the community and have those patient relationships.”
Many clinicians Christina works with are burnt out from private practice demands. OBHG offers a better path.
“Our model really is the best of both worlds. They’re working a fraction of the time, but still get to do all of the aspects of private practice that they really love.”
“The work-life balance with our model is something they could never get in another private practice, ever. That’s a huge selling point.”
Beyond flexibility, OBHG’s structure eliminates major barriers to rural recruitment.
“With our MHAS roles, there’s just nobody else at all doing it like we are. They don’t have to live there. We offer a travel stipend, they can stay in an Airbnb, bring their family. It’s a different sell than anything other hospitals can even offer.”
Relationships that endure
For Christina and the OBHG team, recruiting doesn’t stop once a contract is signed.
“I keep in touch with my clinicians even after they’re hired. We’ve built a relationship, it’s not a one-and-done thing.”
“It’s really never a case where you just hand them off and never hear from them again. They’re always asking about something, and because you’ve been their point of contact, they reach out.”
Those long-term connections help ensure the right fit and lasting success.
“If you recruit somebody and they end up staying there for a long time, obviously you found a good match. Like a marriage.”
