OBHG Hospitalist Dr. Tim Puckett was on shift when he received a phone call from a private OB that he had a family emergency, and that Dr. Puckett needed to assume care of his patient.
The patient was on the fifth day of treatment. She was admitted for observation with high blood pressure, headaches and pain. She was diagnosed with preeclampsia with severe features.
The patient had been evaluated by the OBED and had been in their care for the five days, so Dr. Puckett knew the patient’s history. On day three they had started induction.
After monitoring the patient, Dr. Puckett received a call from the labor and delivery nurse that they were seeing fetal decelerations. Dr. Puckett made the decision to do an emergent C-section, and the patient was quickly taken back for surgery.
