What is an OB hospitalist program?
OB hospitalist programs provide OB/GYN hospitalists that offer on-site, 24-hour-a-day, labor and delivery care at hospitals.
With these programs in place, every patient can count on an experienced OB hospitalist being on-site to provide consistent, comprehensive, quality medical care to women who are pregnant or have just given birth. They provide emergency care prior to the arrival of the patient’s own doctor, support high-risk pregnancy patients and deliver babies for patients who don’t have an obstetrician.
In addition to handling deliveries, OB hospitalists assist with any issues and emergencies that may arise. This includes anything from elevated blood pressure to more serious issues that may require immediate surgery. Data shows that hospitals with OB hospitalist programs have few perinatal safety events and fewer cesarean deliveries.
