Dr. Norman Connell, this year’s Clinical Living the Values Award recipient, is a compassionate and skilled physician and servant leader whose dedication to maternal and infant care has left a measurable impact. Known for his humility and selflessness, Dr. Connell frequently steps in to cover for colleagues in need, ensuring that patients always receive the care they deserve. His quiet, unassuming approach to leadership has earned him the trust and respect of his peers, as he consistently puts the needs of others before his own.
Beyond his work as a clinician, Dr. Connell is a steadfast advocate for maternal care in underserved areas. He leads efforts to support rural clinics in Mississippi, where he and his team provide weekly care to patients in areas that would otherwise lack access. When a large midwife practice in Jackson lost its sponsoring physician, Dr. Connell spearheaded an OBHG partnership to stabilize care for those patients, ensuring continuity and access. His work with the Mississippi legislature to address maternal morbidity and mortality further underscores his commitment to improving outcomes for women and families across the state.
Dr. Connell’s leadership extends beyond his clinical duties, as he also serves as a mentor and collaborator who exemplifies OBHG’s values. From working closely with hospital leadership to traveling out of state to support facilities in need, he continually goes above and beyond to uphold OBHG’s mission. Angie Holcombe-Tyrrell has been an integral part of OBHG for over a decade, where her principled leadership, compassion, and dedication have left a lasting mark. Known for her exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to excellence, Angie consistently places people at the center of her work. Her ability to lead her team with kindness, professionalism, and clarity has been instrumental in guiding OBHG through challenges while maintaining a positive and collaborative culture.

In her community, she is a tireless advocate for those in need, volunteering her time and resources to support families and children.
