Meet OBHG’s Elite: Dr. Wesley Davis, Vice President of Clinical Operations

Excellence in obstetrics shouldn’t require burnout.

Exceptional maternal care depends on clinicians who are focused, supported, and able to have long, meaningful careers. For Dr. Wesley Davis, Vice President of Clinical Operations at Ob Hospitalist Group, the formula is straightforward.

“I think the secret to long, fulfilling careers in medicine is pretty simple — let doctors breathe,” he says.

At OBHG, leadership philosophy centers on empowerment and sustainability. Working alongside clinicians across multiple hospitals nationwide, Dr. Davis has seen a consistent pattern: when clinicians are given flexibility and real support, they stay, and they thrive.

“When clinicians have control over their schedules and feel genuinely supported, they’re able to show up fully for their patients,” he explains. “Wellbeing isn’t a checkbox. It’s essential.”

Creating space for clinicians to do exceptional work and still have a life outside of medicine is not a perk. It’s strategic. Clinicians who are not burnt out deliver safer care.

OBHG invests deeply in leadership development because of the strong belief that the best leaders aren’t outsourced, they are cultivated from within. Many OBHG clinicians serve as department chairs, participate in peer review, or lead hospital committees.

“We promote over 85% of our leaders from within the organization,” Dr. Davis notes. “Often, it just takes someone tapping you on the shoulder and saying, ‘I think you’d be great at this.’”

That culture of mentorship reinforces OBHG’s identity as more than a staffing model. It’s a professional home for clinicians who want to grow and lead. At the core of OBHG’s model, OB hospitalists don’t just clock in and clock out. The play a vital role as as maternal safety champions.

“When we’re on deck in labor and delivery, we set the tone for the entire unit,” Dr. Davis says. “Even if we’re not directly responsible for a patient, we raise the bar of care for everyone.”

When OBHG clinicians are on duty, they are singularly focused. Dr. Davis says that when he is on shift, his only job is to keep labor and delivery safe. No divided attention. No rushing in from private practice or from home. Just his undivided attention to care for his patients.

“For that baby, it’s the most important day of their life. For that mom, it’s one of the most important days of hers. And you get to be part of that day in and day out.”

That’s what elite care looks like in action.
