As a full-scope OB/GYN, Dr. Rula Fuertez poured her energy into patient appointments, surgeries and hospital shifts. But the constant pace took its toll. “I’d miss many of my daughters’ daytime programs or classroom volunteer activities,” she recalls. “Attending meant taking a vacation day for a Christmas program held at 8 a.m. or a mother’s brunch held at 1 p.m.”
That struggle led her to a turning point. “When you’re in private practice, you’re essentially an entrepreneur,” she says. “There are many non-medical responsibilities, from purchasing supplies at Costco to managing medical reimbursements.”
Now a Market Medical Director and Site Director at OBHG’s hospital partner Southwest Healthcare Rancho Springs Hospital in California, Dr. Fuertez says the change has been life-changing. “Working for OBHG has given me the opportunity to do things during the day that I wouldn’t necessarily have been able to do. I’ve found balance in my work and my family life. OBHG made that possible.”
