Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) honors the incredible work of our clinicians in advancing maternal health and transforming care. Each month, we’re spotlighting stories that showcase our clinicians’ expertise and impact, highlighting how they set the standard, drive innovation and redefine care.
Leading the way in clinical excellence
Dr. Jennifer Kasirsky has been with OBHG for three years, serving as an OB hospitalist at Adventist Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. In addition to her clinical role, she is a site director and senior market medical director, overseeing OBHG hospital programs throughout Maryland and Delaware. But her impact extends well beyond the bedside. Dr. Karisky was the recipient of OBHG’s Clinician Living the Values Award in 2023.
As chair of OBHG’s Clinical Advisory Committee (CAC), Dr. Kasirsky helps lead multiple initiatives focused on clinical excellence, education and innovation. “The CAC is really an umbrella group that houses several key committees,” she explains. “Each one is dedicated to projects that support our clinicians and advance maternal safety.”
Those committees include the virtual simulation group—working to develop scalable training tools for clinicians and hospital partners—and the research committee, which supports OBHG-wide clinical studies and fosters physician-led inquiry. There’s also the best practice committee, a team that provides monthly “clinical pearls” to help OBHG physicians stay sharp on both general and emerging topics in OB/GYN care.
“We’re helping sites meet their quality metrics by providing content for learning modules and nursing education,” says Dr. Kasirsky. “It’s all about elevating care across the board.”
A new chapter in career and life
Before joining OBHG, Dr. Kasirsky spent over a decade in solo private practice. The contrast between that lifestyle and her current role couldn’t be clearer.
“Coming to OBHG felt like switching to a part-time job,” she laughs. “I get to garden. I get to play tennis. It gives me time to focus on projects I care about—like CAC—and I still get to do the work I love.”
The structure and predictability of OB hospitalist medicine has opened the door to more balance, both personally and professionally. Her husband even joked that she needed a new hobby to fill her free time—a sentiment that ultimately inspired her to take on leadership within the CAC.
OBHG’s commitment to high standards and clinician well-being was another major draw. “We have rigorous metrics across all our programs,” she says. “We’re really setting the standard for OB and GYN hospitalist medicine nationwide.”
Advice for future hospitalists
For OB/GYNs considering OB hospitalist work, Dr. Kasirsky offers a clear message: Don’t hesitate. “If you’re thinking about it—do it,” she says. “It’s incredibly rewarding. I absolutely love my job.”
