OBHG is partnering with Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Arizona to launch a 24/7 OB hospitalist program staffed by two OB/GYNs. The program will begin as an OB triage model, with plans to convert to an OB Emergency Department (OBED) as the partnership matures.
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is a Level I trauma center with a Level IIIb NICU. The hospital manages approximately 4,544 annual deliveries and 8,094 outpatient triage visits, making this a high-volume, high-acuity setting for the new hospitalist program.
Banner Thunderbird’s OB hospitalist program is designed to:
- Provide comprehensive OB hospitalist coverage 24/7 across L&D, triage, and emergent GYN
- Meet safety and quality standards in accordance with the Banner Perinatal Safety Program
- Offer enhanced support for community and private practice OB/GYNs as needed
- Provide an engaged Site Director to champion perinatal safety
- Support future GME initiatives, including the Family Medicine Residency and OB Fellowship
- Explore implementation of an OBED model
- Support growth initiatives ahead of a planned new women’s tower in 2027
- Provide support and backup for certified nurse-midwives
This launch marks OBHG’s 5th partnership within the Banner Health System and the 22nd OBHG program to launch in 2026.
OBHG is proud to partner with the team at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in support of clinicians, women, and babies in the Glendale community.
