For Dr. Eric Colton, a lifelong passion for medicine started early. As a sixth grader tracing anatomy diagrams for a science project, he knew he wanted to become a doctor. By the time he was sixteen, his first car’s license plate read M.D. 2 BE.
That dream led him to St. Louis University School of Medicine, where he discovered his calling in obstetrics and gynecology. “Delivering babies and caring for women during life’s most critical moments resonates deeply with me,” he says.
After years in private practice, the constant demands and missed family moments began to weigh on him. “I realized I needed a new way to do the work I love while being present for the people I love,” he recalls.
Today, as Senior Market Medical Director and Site Director at OBHG’s hospital partner Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, Dr. Colton has found that balance. “Working as an OB hospitalist allows me to focus on patient care—without the administrative burden. I can lead, teach, and still make time for my family,” he says.
He believes OB hospitalist careers are transforming maternal health. “At OBHG, we’re setting the standard for consistent, unbiased care. It’s rewarding to know we’re making a measurable difference.”
