Macon

Nicknamed “The Heart of Georgia”, Macon is located in the center of Georgia and is about 85 miles from Atlanta. Macon is known for its Native American history, with elaborate earthen mounds built for ceremonial, religious, and burial purposes. Macon is also known for its rich African American history, art, and culture. Also notable is Macon’s celebrated musical heritage which can be seen at the Allman Brothers Band Museum and Capricorn Sounds Studios and Museum. Lake Tobesofkee and the Ocmulgee River are also popular places to kayak, paddle board, or hike to see local wildlife and an abundance of farms and orchards. Macon is served by three major interstates: I-16 which connects to Savannah and coastal Georgia, I-75 which connects to Atlanta, and I-475 which is a city highway.
