Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem is located in the central Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina. Now home to nearly 250k residents, the community dates back to 1733 and offers a plethora of unique historical tours and quaint neighborhoods to explore.

With 80 recreational parks, 12 golf courses, four history gardens, 450 restaurants and 45(!) wineries – plus kid-friendly activities like prospecting at the Daniel Boone Gem Mine or visiting Körner’s Folly – the ‘strangest house in the world’ – residents have a lot of options.

Known for its advanced health care research and technology, Winston (as the locals call it) is also home to Wake Forest University (including the Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education) – a private research college currently ranked 27th in the nation by US News and World Report, and Salem College – the oldest women’s university in the United States.

Easy trips from the area include skiing or hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and dolphin-spotting on South Carolina’s beaches.
